They were shot in bed, but the bullet trajectories show two of the victims were definitely awake. A third had a hip injury which prevented him from sleeping on his stomach - yet that's how he was found - so its likely he was turned over in bed prior to being shot. The boy sleeping in the same room would likely be awakened by the commotion in the next bed during that as well. Ronnie claims Dawn was awake, so that leaves the Father as being the only person likely to have been asleep when shot.

i read in something that the all the kids were shot and murdered in their beds and that the parents were killed too.

The Lutzes didn't see flies and suddenly think "OMG, this house must be haunted." It was a combination of things, such as Kathy being touched/embraced by an unseen entity; George seeing Kathy levitating and her face aging to that of an old woman; unexplained footsteps and weird musical sounds; the kids beds shaking violently and being slammed up and down...After they left, they talked about all the strange events leading up to that last night. Some of which might have a natural explanation...

Please....this entire story outside of the actual crimes that were committed there is nothing but a fraud at the most or at the minimum an exercise in data mining. Flies swarming indoors? Must mean evil spirits. Want to know why flies swarmed indoors in winter? Because that house was unlived in for 1 year before the Lutzes. Flies likely entered the house and as flies do they remain larva during the cold. Until it suddenly becomes warmer...as in someone turns on the heat suddenly. hinthint

There can be "lovely days" during the winter, and there can be freezing days. There's no discrepancy there...

In this case (with the DeFeo family) there is evidence showing 2 of the 6 victims were definitely awake, 3 others most likely being awake and the father most likely being asleep. It is not true that the whole family was asleep when murdered.
